Inspired by the 16 Halo video games, the series brought the storyline to life with powerful characters, such as Master Chief, Soren and Vannak. We worked hard to build out the campaign on time in its entirety. However, the devastating news of the invasion on Ukrainian soil took precedence over the campaign, as we felt it was important to elevate causes that supported Ukraine during this time. As a team, we strongly felt it wasn't the right time to launch the Halo campaign, which had a design emphasis on war and weaponry. That said, we chose to, respectfully, remove those elements from the creative assets and find solutions to portray this launch in a new light that still told the Halo story and kept its integrity, while respecting the emotions many people were experiencing as a result of the tragic current event.
In just three days, we developed brand new art and built every asset out to meet the new deadline. My biggest takeaway from this project is that art can be creatively manipulated when necessary (and quickly, for that matter!). Showing respect for victims of war, nations of the world and so on during trying times is always worth considering when creating designs that will be seen by the masses.
